Watercolour of Weymouth Bay from Bowleaze Cove by William Delamotte. 1806. Weymouth Beach, Bowleaze Cove and nearby Osmington were frequently used by smugglers. In December 1832, there was a violent fight on Weymouth Beach. Two smugglers were shot dead and many more were injured. The smugglers retreated leaving 60 casks of spirits.
